Why I Started Blogging

Amidst learning about market research and analyzing influential campaigns, I have been doing a lot of blogging in graduate school. Over the course of the semester, I have been curating two different types of blogs. One is a structured blog for my strategic writing course, the other is a series of personal blogs I’ve been posting on LinkedIn. I enjoyed these blogs so much that I developed this website to be more creative with my writing and to diversify my topic range as a writer.
Why Start on LinkedIn?
One of the classes I’m taking in graduate school is about personal branding and professional networking. The class spans over two semesters and focuses on how to market oneself as an individual and as a professional. Naturally, the class emphasizes the use of professional networking social media platform, LinkedIn. The class had a standing weekly assignment, which was to write and publish a personal article. Every week I would write about something important going on in my personal life such as relocating to North Carolina and traveling to Ireland with my family. These articles made me realize how much I enjoy writing and storytelling.
Moving To A Personal Website
Although I love sharing my articles on LinkedIn, I wanted to establish another platform to express myself creatively. As an aspiring communications professional, it seemed fitting that I developed a personal website that is exclusively my own. My goal is to use this website as a way to be more creative and personable with the content I develop. Not only am I able to continue publishing personal blogs, but I also have a place to display my professional industry experience via my resume and writing samples.
Posting blogs is something I have always been interested in doing but never had the courage until now. Publishing my life experiences on a professional networking site offers employers a deeper understanding of who I am beyond my resume, while also allowing me to grow my confidence in my copywriting abilities. I am excited to continue these personal blogs on A Meredith Minute and to dive into all types of topics that spark my interest.
